LMFAO's Redfoo Has Michael Jackson, Darth Vader On Hologram Wish List

Redfoo also says the very busy Eddie Murphy could use a hologram so he can 'party all the time.'

A month ago none of us really had hologram dreams. But ever since Tupac was digitally resurrected at the Coachella Music Festival
a few weeks ago, suddenly everyone has a secret roster of artists they would like to see pixelated. The Jackson brothers have said they would love to tour with a digi-Michael, there was that story about Justin Bieber possibly performing with a holo-Elvis
and TLC have been sparking rumors that they will bring back deceased member Left Eye
for a massive reunion tour this year.

And when we asked music fans
in New York's Times Square who they would like to see on stage again, their answers ranged from the Notorious B.I.G. and Nate Dogg to Whitney Houston, Amy Winehouse and John Lennon. But it was LMFAO's Redfoo who had the most eclectic and wide-ranging roster of holograms he'd like to party rock next to.

"I wanna bring Michael Jackson, Charlie Chaplin, Darth Vader, Eddie Murphy," he said, noting that the latter comedian isn't even dead, but is just so busy with movies he could use some holographic help.

"So let's just get a hologram," he suggested to Murphy. "Do your thing over there, but just give us a hologram so we can party all the time, party all the time, party all the tiiiimeee!"

'Avengers' Soars To Huge Foreign Box-Office Debut

Film breaks records in Mexico, Brazil and other foreign markets a week ahead of its U.S. opening.

The Avengers have already begun their world domination. Marvel's crossover movie opened in 39 foreign markets over the weekend, a week before its scheduled U.S. release, and the records have already started to shatter.

Premiering in only 70 percent of the total foreign territories, "The Avengers" has already earned $178.4 million. That total includes record-breaking opens in Mexico, Brazil, Taiwan, the Philippines, Hong Kong and seven other markets, according to Box Office Mojo. Australia's $19.7 million total was the second-highest opening in that country's history.

The $178.4 million total at the international box office ranks as only the ninth-highest foreign opening ever, but it should be taken into account that large markets like China and Russia won't get "The Avengers" until later this week, the same day it opens in the U.S.

Box Office Mojo predicted that "The Avengers" could end up with $600 million at the foreign box office alone, a figure "The Hunger Games" just passed with its global total.

Early tracking and box-office analysis have already predicted that when "The Avengers" does finally open Stateside, it will be enormous. Several experts have projected a possible domestic opening week of around or above $150 million. That opening would put the film well above the series' best debut, "Iron Man 2," which opened in the summer of 2010 to $128 million.

If "The Avengers" were to open above the $150 million mark, it would then be in contention for one of the highest U.S. opens of all time. The current champ, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2" opened to $169 million last year.

Orangutans harbor ancient primate Alu

ScienceDaily (Apr. 29, 2012) ? Alu elements infiltrated the ancestral primate genome about 65 million years ago. Once gained an Alu element is rarely lost so comparison of Alu between species can be used to map primate evolution and diversity. New research published in BioMed Central's open access journal Mobile DNA has found a single Alu, which appears to be an ancestral great ape Alu, that has uniquely multiplied within the orangutan genome.

Analysis of DNA sequences has found over a million Alu elements within each primate genome, many of which are species specific: 5,000 are unique to humans, while 2,300 others are exclusive to chimpanzees. In contrast the orangutan lineage (Sumatran and Bornean orangutans) only has 250 specific Alu.

These tiny pieces of mobile DNA are able to copy themselves using a method similar to retroviruses. But, because this is an inexact process, a segment of 'host' DNA is duplicated at the Alu insertion sites and these footprints, known as 'target site duplications', can be used to 'identify' Alu insertions. Alu elements can be thought of as molecular fossils, and a shared Alu element sequence and location within the genome indicates a common ancestor.

Researchers from Louisiana State University, in collaboration with the Zoological Society of San Diego and the Institute of Systems Biology in Seattle, found a single Alu which is present in great apes, but absent from gibbons and siamang, and so was likely acquired after ancestors of these species diverged. This founder Alu element was found in an intron (non-coding DNA) on chromosome 7.

Subsequent copying of this Alu, visible as insertions into chromosomes 4, 17, and 12, are unique to orangutans, suggesting that the founder Alu inserted before orangutans separated from other members of the Hominidae (humans, gorillas, and chimpanzees). The Sumatran orangutan also has a copy of this Alu in chromosome 13, and has gained a daughter Alu, which rapidly expanded into chromosomes 21, 2b, and 17. These extra insertions are able to pinpoint the divergence of Sumatran and Bornean orangutans.

The ancestral Alu has been much less active in other great apes, but can still provide information about speciation. While still on chromosome 7 the Alu gained three mutations which can be traced to before the split of gorillas with humans and chimpanzees. It subsequently copied itself into chromosome 3 of humans, indicating that this must have occurred after humans split from bonobos and chimpanzees.

Prof Batzer, who led this research along with Jerilyn Walker and Miriam Konkel, explained "Despite otherwise low activity of Alu retrotransposition in orangutans, this ancestral Alu, still present on chromosome 7, has duplicated more rapidly in orangutans than other Hominidae and likely served as an ancient backseat driver that contributed to the recent orangutan-specific expansion of the Alu family."

Research: $1.5 Trillion In Mobile Revenues In 2012, U.S. Accounting For 40% Of All Smartphone Sales

mobile pileThe mobile industry will reel in more than $1.5 trillion in revenues in 2012, with 28 percent of that, $400 billion, attributable to mobile data, according to new research out from analyst Chetan Sharma. He notes that within the revenues expected for mobile data, non-messaging revenues led by apps, mobile web browsing and streaming media have finally overtaken those of traditional messaging like SMS as smartphone usage continues to grow. Non-messaging, he says, will account for 53 percent of the total: in other words, some $212 billion will come from apps, music and video streaming, games and mobile web browsing.
