ROME, N.Y. (WKTV) - A former Rome resident, now living in Dolgeville has been charged with second-degree rape, according to the Oneida County Child Advocacy Center.

Officials with the center say that Stephen A. LaClaire, 20, is alleged to have subjected a child less than 15 years of age to sexual contact during the fall of 2011 at a location in the City of Rome.

LaClaire was transported to Rome City Court where he was arraigned and subsequently transported to the Oneida County Jail in lieu of $20,000 bail. A preliminary examination date had been scheduled for March 28, but LaClaire waived the examination and remains in jail.
