If you?re a TV tech geek, you will officially dork-out over the free BuddyTV Guide app for Android. Put down that ancient remote control and pick up your Android phone to start a magical journey of TV-watching. This smart app is your Android magical wand for watching television, and it even learns your television-watching preferences over time. What has your TV remote done for you lately?
With BuddyTV Guide, you can customize your TV lineup just like your fantasy football lineup, sign-up to get reminders for your favorite shows, and, of course, control your TV. What do you need to do for BuddyTV? You need to rate and favorite your preferred shows, and mark shows as you tune in.
BuddyTV Guide connects with AT&T U-verse-enabled receivers, Google TV, TiVo DVR and Samsung TVs. Set-up is really simple: You enter your ZIP code so the app can locate your cable and/or digital provider. This will pull up programs that are showing now, and you can start teaching BuddyTV what you like. It?s a little more complicated to set up the remote-control feature, and you have to have the right device to connect, which I don?t, so I wasn?t able to test that part. I?m guessing not many people have them yet, but if you do, leave a comment below on how that part works out for you.
The app also connects with your social networks, like Facebook and Twitter, so you can share what you?re watching with friends, very similar to the Get Glue app. By far, my favorite part of the app is that it also tells you what shows are available on Amazon for purchase. So, for instance, I signed into the app, and an episode I missed of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills was on, but it was already 15 minutes into the show. Never fear, BuddyTV tells me that I can purchase it on Amazon right now, and tune in anytime I want. Now that is a smart app.
