Spruce Run Sponsors Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month Events

Bangor -

AUGUSTA, Maine ? Spruce Run Association?the domestic violence resource center serving Penobscot County? is announcing that February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month. Spruce Run is sponsoring events and partnering with local schools and organizations to raise awareness about this serious issue.

Governor LePage will be signing a proclamation for the month at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, at the State House. This yearly proclamation is an official way to recognize that dating abuse is present in teen relationships in Maine and that it takes efforts on all levels of the community to address it. On February 16th, Spruce Run is partnering with the Brewer and Bangor high school hockey teams to raise awareness about dating abuse during their annual Fill The Alfond night at the University of Maine. Advocates from Spruce Run will be on hand to answer questions and promote healthy relationships with sports-themed giveaways.

Domestic abuse and dating violence affects all of us in some way during our lifetime. Spruce Run?s 24-hour hotline (1-800-863-9909) is available to anyone affected by domestic abuse to talk about their situation and explore their options. Working together we can change attitudes, save lives and end abuse.
