Treadmill workouts and your knees is one fitness myth that has been going around for a long time. Some people believe that running on a treadmill is not as hard on your knees as running on pavement, concrete, or asphalt. No way, running in general is harsh on the knees no matter what the surface. When you choose running or jogging as your exercise of choice you are putting your knees at risk since your weight is forced on them. The surface you choose to run on has no impact on the safety of the exercise.

The reason for that is simply that you are in the early stages of fitness habit formation. You will have to go through a painful re-education later if you form the wrong habits now. You need good habits to succeed and to stick with your fitness routine.
