LONDON -- The baby expected by Britain's Prince William and his wife Kate, the?Duchess of Cambridge, is due in July, St. James' Palace announced Monday.
"Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted to confirm they are expecting a baby in July," the palace said in a statement.
?The duchess' condition continues to improve since her stay in hospital last month,? it added.
Throughout history, royal pregnancies have been public affairs surrounded by superstition and ritual. Royal historian Kate Williams and Alison James, author of "The Royal Baby Book," take a look at what previous British nobles went through.
The former Kate Middleton was?admitted?to London's King Edward VII Hospital for acute morning sickness in early December.
There was immediate speculation on whether the wording of the statement ruled out the possibility of the Duchess having twins.?
