Five Things To Remember When Studying For The CPA Exam

You?ve spent your life driving towards that great job, a huge salary and prestige. You?ve got your degree, obtained an education, and are ready for your career. Just one thing stands in your way: studying for the CPA exam and successfully passing it.

So, how do you do that?

1. Use the right study materials. CPA study guides are a must-have. It is worth every cent you spend on a reputable CPA study course, such as Wiley, Becker, Roger, or Yeager. Although the price may seem daunting, purchasing a study guide is a small investment to make for successfully passing the CPA exam. Once you?ve made this significant purchase, put it to good use. The only thing worse than not buying a study guide is not using a study guide that you?ve already bought. Follow the instructions, and pave the way for smooth sailing during test time.

2. Develop a study schedule, and follow it with desperate, maniacal, die-hard devotion. Taking a tool such as your personal calendar to plot out your study course is essential for success. After scheduling your test date with NASBA, you want to fill every available minute with CPA study. Chunk out evening hours. Fight distractions. Scale down your social life. Do it. Do not postpone your studying. The best preparation begins in earnest six months before the test date.

3. Spot your problem spots. During your preparation, take special note of the problems that give you the most trouble. The areas that give you problems during study will also give you problems during the test. Hone in on these areas and practice them until they become easy.

4. Practice, practice, practice. It may be a trite cliche; but practicing is essential. You already know, in general, what?s going to be on the exam. That means to be a success, you need to practice solving the problems repetitively so you know you?re confident that you can cope with the exam. Plan to take several official practice tests, and use each one as an opportunity to identify weak knowledge areas.

5. Eat well, sleep well, live well. Although you want to do the best you can, if you?re sleep deprived, powered b junk food and totally stressed out when it comes time to take the test, you?re destined to fail. As much as possible, eat healthy, get sufficient sleep, exercise regularly, and remove unnecessary stress from your life. You won?t be successful unless you?re prepared in every area of life.

Studying for the CPA exam is grueling, but passing it is glorious. By following these five commonsense tips, you?ll have nothing to worry about when test time rolls around.
