HOME IMPROVEMENT ? Make Your Garage Into A Brand New Space

July 16th, 2012

Sometimes the extra space that you want is right under your nose. Most homes have garages, and many harbor unused space that could be put to good use. Turn your eyes onto the little mini-room that is already attached to your home, and consider the possibilities for making it work for you in a more efficient and enjoyable way. Read on for some ideas of how to approach a garage remodel. One popular use of extra garage space is to build a home workshop. It is a natural environment for storing tools and machinery, but it can also do more that just be a place to shove them after use. You can actually dedicate a portion of your garage to being a workspace where you do needed repairs, or even create furniture, do woodworking projects, or cut tiles. Install shelving and cabinets as well as stations for cutting wood or assembling products. Have a place for everything, and make sure that all family members know where to find what they may need and where to return it after they are finished. If you have growing children or teenagers who would enjoy having a room to entertain friends, consider turning your garage into an entertainment room. Put in some inexpensive couches and a table, indoor-outdoor carpeting and a music system. Not only will your budding young adults have a feeling of having their own space, but you will benefit from keeping the often-loud activities of young ones in a separate place. Make sure that the garage is accessible to adults and that you monitor their activities, so that everyone can enjoy the benefits. If you feel the need to increase your physical activity, but do not have the time to go regularly to a gym for workouts, you could easily use your extra garage space to create a home gym. Section off a space and fill it with fitness equipment. Make sure that it is climate controlled so that you will not dread going there, and put in a music system of some type. Make it an inviting space that is conducive to physical exercise. If you find that you are spending a lot of time working at home or want to start a new home business, your garage could be an ideal place to set up a small office. If you have electricity and heat or air conditioning, there is no reason why you could not work comfortably in the garage. If your business grows, you may even want to consider a total conversion and park your car outside. Make sure that your Internet service functions correctly in there, and add a phone line if necessary. If your family is growing or you have aging parents who may need to live with you, don?t feel that you must all try to cram uncomfortably into your existing space. Convert your garage into a bedroom or even a small efficiency apartment. You can install plumbing to make a small kitchen or a bathroom. Check the laws in your city to see if a permit is required before you begin. It is easier to know the rules ahead of time and adhere to them, rather than getting fines and having to redo the job later. Look at your garage with totally new eyes, and be open to ideas that could make it a place that gives you and your family much pleasure. Incorporate some of the ideas here to get started, then enjoy the results of your innovative thinking.
